Lower Town sits below Fishguard's main town, around the old harbour on the Gwaun estuary — a cluster of solid stone cottages, some recognisable from film work shot here in the past, and a fair number now let out as holiday accommodation. Almost none of it was built with cavity walls, which changes how we approach a heat pump retrofit: a heat-loss survey comes first, because solid stone behaves very differently to a modern cavity wall when you're trying to hold heat in at a lower flow temperature.

Being right on the harbour also means salt-laden air, which accelerates corrosion on anything metal left exposed outdoors. We site and specify outdoor heat pump units with that in mind rather than treating Lower Town the same as an inland installation.

Access is the other local factor: some of the lanes down to the harbour are narrow, with limited or no vehicle access right to the door. We plan deliveries and equipment around this at survey stage rather than discovering it on install day.
