Radiators, Underfloor Heating and Cylinders

Domestic heating covers everything downstream of the boiler or heat pump: the radiators or underfloor heating that actually heat the rooms, the cylinder that stores your hot water, and the controls that decide when any of it runs.

Underfloor heating pairs particularly well with a heat pump because of the lower flow temperature both are happiest running at, and it's a natural choice when floors are already coming up for an extension or full renovation. Retrofitting it under an existing solid floor is a bigger, more disruptive job, so for most straightforward retrofits we look at upsizing radiators instead — it's usually the quicker, less invasive route to the same comfort.

Hot water cylinders matter more than people expect. A heat pump generally needs an unvented cylinder sized correctly for the household, not whatever tank happens to already be in the airing cupboard.
